However, as it’s name implies the deeper lid is split into two sections, either down the length (pictured) or across the width. Either way, means that the lids can be ‘peeled’ away revealing the object inside. With a normal Top-Hat trunk housing tall objects, would mean lifting the lid high, to clear the top. With a Split-Lid version, the lids need lifting just to clear the base.

This style of trunk is especially popular with sizes of plasma and LED screens of around 70″ and larger. Smaller screens will normally use the Monitor Screen Trunk.
